The Jindal Problem: In a nutshell
Mar 29th, 2007 by Daniel Z.
I just read an article and found this sentence which aptly describes my lack of understanding when it comes to why Jindal has so much support.
“The well-spoken Jindal has dazzled many professionals who seem willing to overlook his fundamentalist agenda.”

For some reason, the fact that he speaks well and has been able to obtain a good education causes people to forget all of the extremist stances he holds dear. I was in Houston after Katrina and had a discussion with a fellow evacuee staying in the same apartment complex. He was a Democrat who had claimed to support Jindal in the 2003 election. I asked him what he felt about many different positions that Jindal has. His comment was something to the effect of “yeah, I disagree with a majority of what he stands for, but…”. The “but” is the important thing. It also comes in when you criticize him for his policies and his supporters say “but he is so smart”.
That one line says it all though. People are just so mesmerized by his ability to just speak and rattle off numbers and figures, he just makes some people believe that he knows what he is talking about (even if he is dead wrong). People just forget that he is an extremist on the far right wing who wears his religion on his sleeve so much that you would think his clothes where made from the bible.
I personally have no problem with people who want to practice their religion. That is fine with me. The problem I have is when people use “big government” to push their interpretation of their religion on me. I hope that those “professionals” will become less dazzled and more critical of his record and his positions.

Dan Z, I’m getting support from Jindal’s side of the fence. On the 9th I’ll be in Lafayette on the radio. I’m going to rock his world!
What show? What time?
Tony let us know how it goes.
His fundamentalist agenda is not why I support Jindal. I support Jindal because he pushes big business, and people need to realize Louisiana has always lacked strong business support. Lower corporate taxes, give larger incentives to prospective business, boost education (to present a strong workforce) and then you will have a strong economy to foster other spending.
Furthermore, he is smart. Plain and simple. Should we hope for the alternative?!
KVOL in Lafayette,
NELAResident: You are one of the people that confuse me then. Typically, people who do not have a fundamentalist agenda themselves tend to shy away from candidates who are fundamentalists.
Let me ask you a few questions. You support Jindal because he is “smart”. How many of the candidates who are running, or who are thinking about running, are not smart? Being intelligent is only a good thing if you use that intelligence wisely. I do not think Jindal is wise. He did not have the wisdom to put coastal restoration and hurricane protection as one of his top priorities when he ran for Congress. He does not have a good plan to deal with the short term surplus the state is seeing from people rebuilding after the storms. He does not use his intelligence wisely when he weakens house ethics rules and cuts funding from education.
You say that Jindal supports business. How many of the candidates who are running, or who are thinking about running, are not pro-business? Do you think Republican John Georges is going to be anti-business? I doubt that. He is probably very smart and I have not seen that he would be as fundamentalist as Jindal. So why wouldn’t you, as a non fundamentalist Republican, support John Georges in the primary?
Tony: Are you going on Jeff Crouere’s show?
I have been on it already, TV and Radio.
From 7am to 8 am
I’ve been kind of watching the news on the British soldiers being released from Iran. Has anyone noticed the striking reselmblance of Bobby JinDULL to Iranian President Ahmadjinad (spelling may be wrong)?
I don’t see the resemblence. I also don’t think it is a good idea to “make fun” of how Jindal looks. It is not very mature and will not be helpful in convincing people that this is serious in spreading the word about why Bobby Jindal is a bad choice for Governor.
Believe it or not, someone has a JindalIsGood website. i refuse to link to it. and they post random photographs and attribute them to john breaux. i guess they are not committed to rigor. by the way, visit dailykingfish.com.
Louisianagirl: The reason that this site was created was as a response to the ‘jindal is good” website. If it wasn’t for the 1 or 2 pages that endorse Jindal’s candidacy, I would view it as just a parody page or as an advertisement using names like Breaux and Jindal (as well as other popular search terms) to draw traffic to their site and advertise their store.
