TikTok³ÉÈË°æ Helps Restore Wollaton Park’s Secret Garden

Learner restoring pillar at Wollaton Park

Following our recent expansion into Nottingham, we were delighted to welcome our first cohort of learners to the new Wollaton Park hub in September.

TikTok³ÉÈË°æ @ Wollaton Park is a brand-new programme aimed at learners aged 18-24 with an Education Health and Care Plan who are interested in horticulture or basic construction skills.

On this programme, our learners are gaining valuable employment skills, whilst playing a key part in restoring the historic walled garden at Wollaton Park.

In the last 3 months, whilst developing basic construction skills, learners have also worked on a variety of projects.

Trades learners have started to restore the old cavity walls surrounding the garden by raking out old mortar and repointing with lime mortar.

They have also partly restored one of the gate pillars and are working on repairing the driveway.

After Christmas, they plan to help the volunteers with restoring the bothy houses which will include removing the roof structure, restoring floors and walls and building a new roof.

Horticulture learners will be joining the programme in January and will be involved in recreating the old orchard, developing new planting areas, general gardening and growing and cultivating crops.

We’re currently recruiting for learners interested in starting in January or September 2023.  Places are limited, so don’t miss out, apply today.
