More examples of Jindal’s lies.
Apr 17th, 2007 by Daniel Z.
Bobby Jindal kept telling us that he didn’t know if he was running for governor or not when he was running for reelection in 2006. His campaign finance reports show otherwise.
http://www.ethics.state.la.us/cgi-bin/la98/forms/CAN990556/11377/102A-2
On 10/10/06, the Sleep Inn in Pineville, La made an in-kind contribution worth $1033.80 in the form of a hotel stay for 6 nights.
On 10/20/06, the Marriott Courtyard in Monroe, La made an in-kind contribution worth $760.00 in the form of a hotel stay for 4 nights.
On 10/28/06, the Hampton Inn in Natchitoches, La made an in-kind contribution worth 209.62 in the form of a hotel stay for 2 nights.
We have already linked to the Jindal campaign site where he says that he traveled from Kentwood to Ruston and everywhere in between (most places not in LA01). If he was not campaigning for governor during this time, why are these hotel rooms listed as in-kind campaign donations for his Governors campaign?
So either he was campaigning for Governor (and lying about not doing it) or he was using his Governor’s campaign account to get free lodging as a Congressman running for reelection making the tour of the state.
The facts speak for themselves. Jindal accepted 3 in-kind donations for lodging as he was touring the state. He obviously was campaigning for Governor.
It seems rather unethical for him to have accepted free lodging during his campaign for Congress (under the guise of it being an in-kind campaign donation). Maybe that is why Jindal voted to weaken ethics standards in the house.
I wonder what a closer look at Jindal’s campaign finance reports will tell us.

He was raising Governor funds in Baton Rouge in June!!!
That just seems like he was exploring the option to run. If that is the case, is this all ok then?
Some other pre-November contributions.
Alaska Eastern Partners 10/27/2006 $5000.00
Amedisys Inc. 08/11/2006 $5000.00
AppOne Inc. 06/05/2006 $5000.00
Aquaterra LLC 08/11/2006 $5000.00
Arrighi Simoneaux 06/05/2006 $5000.00
Shelley Barry 06/05/2006 $5000.00
Belcher Management 08/11/2006 $5000.00
Lance B. Belcher 08/11/2006 $5000.00
Robert L. Belk 08/11/2006 $5000.00
David J. Bondy Jr. 06/05/2006 $5000.00
$50,000 right there, and that only goes into the B last names. And he want’s to claim that he wasn’t running for Governor (or that he didnt know)? That is laughable.
Another thing that sticks out is this. Belcher Management donated $5,000. Lance Belcher donated $5,000. I havn’t verified this fact but Im sure that Lance Belcher owns Belcher Management. This is a legal donation because a business can donate and so can private individuals. I just wonder how many people made personal donations and then made donations through their business. I wonder if the Jindal campaign counts this as “two donations” even though it is one person guiding the funds.
There is also similar contributions from the Livingston Group, they represent the SSA (southern shrimp alliance)
http://www.opensecrets.org/lobbyists/clientsum.asp?year=2006&txtname=Southern+Shrimp+Alliance
It seems that the Southern shrimp alliance is working against the LSA Louisiana shrimpers. I don’t know the whole story yet, But it looks like the case of another washington lobby backed business or processors putting local familly shrimpers out. Anyway, I am guessing Jindal has a lot of donations from lobbies. If we were honest he would give this money back like Obama has done…
Yes, the Livingston group, founded by Bob Livingston (the man who lost Louisiana “clout” by having an affair and resigning from Congress).
Bob Livingston, who was listed as the chairperson of the “Bobby Jindal Campaign Committee LLC” through the 2005 campaign finance report.
http://www.ethics.state.la.us/cgi-bin/la98/forms/CAN990556/9132/
I believe Bobby Jindal worked as a legislative aide (or in some other capacity) under Bob Livingston while he was in Congress.
Yet Jindal is supposedly “new blood”. That is also laughable.
Great finds everyone! Keep it up!
actually if you sort this in Excel, you will see he had june fundraiser in BR with the construction industry plus Rolfe McCollister etc.
is the david l. bondy, jr. any relation to kelli bondy - who is or was an aide to piyush “bobby” jindal?
Where is Stacey Tallitsch?
I think he has enough to sink Jindal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr3ZA4qeZ0M&NR=1
Stacey, David Gereighty, and myself pretty much all have the same information about Jindal since we have all, at some point in time, ran against him.
Yes David Bondy is Kelli Bondy’s dad — and Price LeBlanc’s son-in-law — his wife runs the Price LeBlanc Lexus dealership in BR FYI — David is a contractor –
Tell me more about Attorney General Charles Foti. Whos campaign list is he on? We all know how these Attorney Generals get appointed nowdays so nothing is going to surprise us.
nevermind, I see that he is the embattled democrat that is trying to prosecute the Doctors, maybe he is scared to stick his neck out. It is ashamed, I think Breaux could wether this storm on citizenship thing. Maybe his heart is not in it.
Why are so many politicions from Louisiana rubber stampers for Industries that America likes least. Like Tauzin and giving Drug companies so much? And this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_Jm-P3XvnE ?
I hope I am not offending anyone.
Sanjaya is going home on Idol!
shill at lsu for “bobby” types misinformation. i force him to deal with the facts:
http://www.dailykingfish.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=29
Interesting thread.
I think it is. Jindal claims he isn’t campaigning for governor but his campaigning for governor started before the November 2006 Congressional election.
It just goes to show how he lies, and those lies are so blatant and people still believe them! That is what baffles me the most.
Shill at LSU refuses to issue a retraction. All LSU students must write Letters to the editor. Visit my website for details.
Will Dr. Howell jump into the Jindal race again and attack Jindal. Will Jindal allow himself to be used as a whipping boy and not have the courage to defend himself or respond to charges made against him?
If Jindal becomes Governor, any speculation who would attempt to replace him in Congress?
Greg: Jindal has shown a lack of courage in all of his elections. In the Governor’s election he refused to defend himself against attacks. In the next two elections (for Congress) he avoided all of the candidate forums except for the very first one. Jindal doesn’t react well to public criticism and it seems to me that he is afraid of any public forum where he, or the Republican Party, is not in control. If someone doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to public criticism of his record, why would we believe that he would make a good governor?
I know people like Tom Schendler (sp?) and Steve Scalise would want a crack at the seat. I have also heard that councilman John Young would also want an opportunity. People who have run in the past (like David Gereighty) may want another crack at it as well.
Tom Schedler never disliked a tax that came across his desk. He was by far not an impressive politician. He in my opinion is more of a life long civil service type of politian. John Young needs a great big liesson in humility.
Dan Z. a suggestion to you. I believe that it would be political ammunition for you if you would contact Elliott Stoneceipeher and see if he would let you ask a question of him. He has expressed weaknesses of Jindal. If you can get Elliott to tell you his opinion as to why Jindal cannot come out with specific ideas. Elliott has publicly commented on that and in that he says shows ( my word hypocrisy) of Jindal.
On the other hand DanZ, I would NOT want a governor who worries about public criticism more than doing his job. We have plenty of politicians who do that already.
In response to dodging some of the public forums, he could just not be good at answering questions on the spot. That’s why we have press secretaries. I don’t feel that would interfere with his job as governor either. Plus, if you have any questions for him, have you tried emailing him? The times I’ve emailed him (not ‘good job bobby’ emails either), I’ve gotten replies usually within three days. That is representation.
Further reason why Bobby Jindal should be governor:
___________________________________________________
Washington, Apr 18 - After addressing his colleagues on the floor of the House of Representatives regarding the importance of helping Louisiana’s small businesses recover, Congressman Bobby Jindal (LA-01) today successfully offered an amendment that will provide small businesses affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita with the option of receiving a four year deferment period to payback their disaster loans.
The amendment was adopted as part of the Relief for Entrepreneurs: Coordination of Objectives and Values for Effective Recovery (RECOVER) Act (H.R. 1361), which passed the House by a margin of 267-158. The original version of the bill only extended this deferment period to future disaster victims, and Jindal’s amendment applies this option to those severely affected by the 2005 hurricanes.
“As we continue to rebuild our state, it is critically important that we give our small businesses the resources they need in order to create and maintain jobs right here in Louisiana,” Jindal said. “By allowing small businesses that received small business loans to defer their repayment on disaster loans, we are freeing up money for these businesses to use for other purposes, such as rebuilding, expanding, or continuing to hire new employees. In helping our small businesses, we can help regrow our economy and bring increased economic development and opportunities to our state, which studies have shown will in turn strengthen our health outcomes, educational systems, and other critical areas of our state’s infrastructure.”
According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, over 125,000 businesses were disrupted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. In Louisiana alone, over 81,000 small businesses were damaged or economically impacted, with 18,700 businesses catastrophically destroyed by the storms. Congressman Jindal has also introduced legislation (H.R. 1446) in the House of Representatives that would amend the Small Business Act to allow will allow payment on small business loans taken from the 7(b) loan program to be deferred up to four years.
NELA Resident: Sorry, but it is too little too late. He should have done this in 2005. Too little, too late. And I do not appreciate the election year posturing, which reveals to me that nothing he does is on behalf of the state. Indeed, it is always on behalf on Jindal.
I want authentic representation, not representation that is either bought and bossed or weighed against a cynical electoral calculas.

A governor has to be able to make sound high impact decisions on a moments notice. Katrina should us what delayed thinking or waiting on a quoram brings. I challenge Jindal to come out into the real world, the bare knuckle world of the interent and address people’s questions at will. Prove himself worthy of being a Governor of the people. Right now he’s a creampuff. Come out to this site night after night hammering out debates with real live citizens uncut. No script. I have done it for the last year. You can’t listen if you’re always talking. Talk is cheap, we need action. We have had too many Havard like studies performed. It’s time to put the foot on the shovel and get this recovery in high gear. All the lights and glamour will not fix this state. Come on out Jindal, meet the real press.
Sorry got a little fired up! I get my butt chewed on every night standing up for what I believe in taking it to the people. Not only going where I’m invited. One thing I will not do is ask you for your hard earned money. This is my campaign for a job I want. I have had to work for every job I wanted and I see this one as no different. All I ask is you give me a fair look. Research the candidates yourself. Voting for name recognition and the front runners has cost us plenty!
NELAResident: Almost every politican, Democrat or Republican, will do something that I like eventually. Bobby Jindal made it so that the victims of Ivan wouldn’t have to pay taxes on the aid that they got. This was a good thing.
However, just because a Congressman is able to pass SOME legislation that is needed, does that mean we should ignore the negatives about his record? I do not believe so. To use an extreme example, just because Hitler could get the trains to run on time doesn’t mean that he is someone I would want as my leader.
So lets say Jindal was able to pass a couple of bills that I agree with. Does that change the fact that he voted to weaken house ethics? Does that change the fact that he cut federal student aid by 12 billion? Does it change all of the other negative things that I have brought up about him and his record?
The fact of the matter is that it doesnt change those one bit. Jindal has done SO much that is negative, his positives shouldn’t make us forget all that.
Do you see what I am trying to get? Whether or not you can point to some good votes, his bad votes give us the reasons why he shouldnt be governor.
Tony: A candidate for governor SHOULD be able to deal with situations right then and there. You make a very solid point there is no need to apologize for it.
Tony G lets have some specifics
Dan Z
Sorry, but it is too little too late. If Piyush wanted to relieve us of matching funds and taxes, he could have used this clout everyone says he has and done something WHEN HIS PARTY WAS IN THE MAJORITY. He did nothing, and now that Democrats are in the majority, we are getting it done. Jindal sat there for two years and let his party push us and him around. Landrieu screamed and yelled, but Vitter and Jindal worked behind the scenes to try to humiliate her. Jindal put the Party before us.
Pointcoupe: You are preaching to the choir on that issue. When I ran against Jindal in 2004 my number 1 priority was coastal restoration and hurricane protection. Jindal ignored those important issues in that campaign.
Greg, I really want to answer your question, I need to understand as to what content you want specifics.
Now if you’re talking about why I say the party is protecting Jindal I’ll give you two personal examples. 1) All the candidates were invited to the LOJE Annual meeting (Louisiana Organization for Judicial Excellence). We were given four questions to answer. If you could not attend you could fax back the answers or have a representative. He failed to even acknowledge the organization. All the Candidates were invited to an interview in Lafayette on KVOL. He did not even respond to the invitation. Both of these events were uncontrolled. Questions would have come at him from all angles. Yes, he goes on the radio such as WWL, rarely and I mean rarely does he take calls and they are undoubtedly screened. I have never heard anybody bring him to task. The real world is bare knuckled. You have to be able to take the punches and hit back. To date he is nothing other than a protected politician protecting an over inflated rating at the polls. This is the time to find out if he is real or not. Not after he’s elected. We cannot afford four more years of indecision and talk.
Tony G. since as Dan Z. pointed out this is a thread to criticize Jindal. Yet I notice you promoting yourself. Double standard Dan Z as you are pro Tony? Tony I would like you on NOLA.com Kenner forum, list specific things that you would attempt to do as Governor. For example one of the things that Boasso wants to do is have a bill passed to make it easier to re-call a politician. Another thing is to make all legislators post for public viewing all of the contracts or work that they receive while they are legislators. On the other hand I have never seen you get specific such as that and you have admitted that you were not even aware of wrongdoing by legislators. You say “change”. What does change mean to you? Specifically!
Greg: I do not run this blog. I just have the authority to start a new thread of conversation, while casual users can only reply to those threads.
It is up to “Jindalisbad”, the owner of this blog, to determine what posts are allowed and what posts are not. I am assuming that he will allow any candidate to come to the forum and post about themselves. I have no moderation permissions when it comes to who can post and what can be posted.
And this entire forum is to share our criticisms of Bobby Jindal with all those who read it, not just the thread.
And I have yet to state who I am supporting for governor (I would have supported Breaux had he run).
Greg, I will answer your questions tonight on NOLA.com. I promote myself sparingly here and I am gracious to the ownwer of the site for allowing me to do so. NO one here has endorsed me or offered support. This site is a vehicle to some insightful material which I deem useful not only as a candidate but as a voter.
Greg, I’ll answer you here first then post it in NOLA.com. I believe that State and local Governments should be transparent. If I want to see where the money is being spent I should have access to it. On my website I say (and I have said this public ally) the day after I’m elected I will hire two out of state accounting agencies. I’ going to have them scour the books.
We’re going to find every penny that is coming in and where is it going. I’m going to put the bite back in the state Inspector’s job. You will know by name who the State Inspector is. We’re going to inspect every contract the state is involved in. For example if we’re paying $100 for a load of asphalt and market price is fifty. I want to know why. IF there are any improprieties. I want to explore how we can get out of the contracts. Any legal issues will be dealt with in accordance with the existing laws. All contracts dealing with State Money will go through the State Inspectors office.
Recalls of politicians, I agree should not be so cumbersome. I would propose that acquiring signatures equaling to fifty percent plus one of the numbers of votes the official received. These signatures along with the allegation will be forwarded to the Secretary of State for an investigation. If deemed appropriate recall vote shall be awarded under existing state law. I don’t remember off hand I believe the State Senate and Reps are involved.
The public elects officials who they believe will manage state and local government effectively and responsibly. The money they deal with is not theirs. They have been charged with the responsibility of managing it. Failure to do so within the guidelines of the law or an official not meeting the fiduciary needs of his constituents will also be grounds for recall and or criminal prosecution.
Part of the problem in Louisiana is that is viewed that our politicians are corrupt. We have a bad history for sure. We have to shake that image. Holding public officials to the highest ethics is the only way to achieve this. We have to level the playing field for all businesses to do well in Louisiana and thrive. We need to make it attractive for others to come here.
Infrastructure, we need some updating in this category. I’m working on a piece that I will have published so I won’t go into detail here. My website defines many ideas I have. I realize the Governor is not a king or queen. There will be a lot of negotiating that will need to take place. One thing Greg, I’ll bend some, I am not rigid. However, I will not break. Like I said before Jindal is protected. The bare knuckle world is less forgiving. I have taken my hits for what I stand for. I know I’ll take more. I’m taking my message to the people. In person ninety -nine percent are responsive to my ideas. So I know they’re not off base. Mr. Jindal better pay mind. People whose eyes were closed are now open. Selling rhetoric at a cheap price won’t cut it anymore. Greg, I believe I’m in this race for the right reason. The advancement of our state and it’s people. I’m not for promoting any party as the leader or the lesser. Any laws I sign into existence will be for the betterment of our state not for any political groups or PACs.
Jindal is already trying to drive down the cost of labor in louisiana so that his “Free Market” cronies of the Repug party can bring in more “Cheap Labor”.
“quote:
HR 800 called for amendment of the National Labor Relations Act to establish an efficient system to enable employees to form, join, or assist labor unions, to provide for mandatory injunctions for unfair labor practices during organizing efforts, and for other purposes.
It’s hard to imagine what’s wrong with a bill that’s designed to end “unfair labor practices.”
A vote for HR 800 would have been a vote for workingmen and workingwomen of Louisiana. The bill would eliminate a requirement for a vote to organize a labor union, outline a time frame for the bargaining process, and provide certain penalties for employers who attempt to influence the formation of a union.
Yet, BOBBY JINDALL VOTED AGAINST HR 800.
Is Bobby Jindall good for Louisiana?

”
Here is the vote tally: http://www.unionvoice.org/wfean/EFCA_HouseVote.html
Here is what the Bill does to working Americans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBnK1tp_DAI We all know trickle down does not trickle down unless you are taling about BS.
So what if Bobby Jindal spent all those nights in all those awesome motels. I would too if I was Governor or President. You guys need so much help its unbelieveable.
You miss the point, all of the Hotel stays were outside of LA01. When asked if he was running for Governor he would not answer. His actions told the tale. His rhetoric told a different story.
Tony: It is not just that he spent those nights outside of LA01. It is also that he accepted those hotel stays as CONTRIBUTIONS to his GOVERNORS campaign in the middle of his Congressional election…. all while denying that he had made a decision on whether he would run for Governor.
The man is a liar. I guess Ron wants a liar for Governor.
ron chaisson, i am sure your wife would like to know about all the motels you have stayed in this past year.

Democrats Put Their Best Lies Forward
David Limbaugh
As someone who has criticized the Bush administration for not fighting back enough against relentless Democratic attacks and disinformation, I was delighted by Vice President Cheney’s overdue dress-down of the Peter-principled and unprincipled Senate majority leader, Harry Reid.
If the mainstream media (MSM) gave as much credence to stories of real deception by Democrats as they do to phony allegations of Republican deception, the political landscape would look dramatically different. But no, I’m not holding my breath.
The MSM dutifully reports as fact the Democrats’ false allegation that Bush lied about Iraqi WMD, when at worst it was a mistake, since Bush was properly relying on the virtually unanimous opinion of all major intelligence agencies in the United States and the world. To lie is to say something you know at the time to be false.
In fairness, though, it was not President Bush’s mistake, but the intelligence agencies. If you insist on saying Bush made a mistake, so did the Democrats who voted along with him — with access to the same intelligence, though they’ve lied in denying that as well.
Though Bush clearly hadn’t lied, we wondered why Democrats were all of a sudden bothered by lying, since they habitually defended a habitual liar of their party who previously occupied the Oval Office.
That’s simple, they said. Clinton was lying only about sex. If you lie about sex, even under oath, you should come nearer receiving a Nobel Peace Prize than being punished for it. Of course, Clinton lied about much more than sex, but I digress.
President Bush, they say, lied us into war — about decisions that would affect lives and our national security. I certainly agree that for a public official actually to lie about such grave matters is inexcusable, which brings us to Dick Cheney’s verbal laceration of Harry Reid.
Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, the rest of the Democratic leadership and their MSM echo-puppets are portraying Cheney’s remarks as petty partisan politics. In the words of Reid, Cheney is the administration’s “attack dog.” It’s more accurate to say that he has been one of the Democrats’ favorite scapegoats.
But here we go again.
When Democrats assassinate Cheney’s character with absurd lies, like “war for oil,” the MSM reports it matter of factly as “VP under fire.” When Cheney hits Democratic leader Reid squarely in the eye with truthful charges of his lies and inconsistencies, Cheney is portrayed as a vicious partisan hit man. All the while, the sober and self-evident truth of those allegations is downplayed or ignored. But we must not miss the substance of Cheney’s pointed remarks.
The occasion for Cheney’s statement on Reid was the Senate majority leader’s regrettable declaration that we have lost the war in Iraq. Cheney decided to set the record straight on Reid’s opportunistic oscillation on Iraq.
Cheney noted that in just five months Reid has taken three distinctly different positions on the war: “from pledging full funding for the military, then full funding but with conditions, and then a cutoff of funding . . . on the most important foreign policy question facing the nation and our troops.”
Are you with me on this? We’re not talking about sex here, but “the most important foreign policy question facing the nation and our troops.” Reid has not only changed his position on the pivotal issue of Iraq, but flagrantly lied about it — and Cheney caught him dead to rights.
Cheney pointed out that Reid falsely stated the troop surge was against the recommendations of the Iraq Surrender Group (ISG), which is “plainly false.” The ISG report “was explicitly favorable toward a troop surge to secure Baghdad.” This surge, in the opinion of the general in command, is critical to our victory in Iraq, and Reid is lying about the ISG’s recommendation on it. So this lie conceivably could affect the very outcome of the war and, thus, our national security.
Cheney said that Reid chided Bush for not participating in a regional conference on Iraq, yet we’re scheduled to participate in one next week.
Reid said Democrats aren’t given the opportunity for real substantive meetings with the White House. But just last week, said Cheney, Reid emerged from a meeting at the White House and said, “It was a good exchange; everyone voiced their considered opinion about the war in Iraq.”
Checkmate!
If Reid is going to continue this pattern of prevarication, he’s going to have to cover his tracks better.
Call Cheney a counterattack dog if you wish. But at least he’s counterattacking on behalf of truth and America’s national security. More power to him.

ron, jindal would not know a louisiana value if it hit him in his smug face. the man takes care of his own, the rich. and he has no record of job creation. in fact, his record is one of a politician who is bought and bossed by George W. Bush. believe what you want, but the proof is in the pudding. and jindal’s pudding is not very rich.
will it ever end? someone put him in a cage.

David Limbaugh represents the extreme 20% who believe Bush had justification to invade Iraq. I recommend reading legitimate news sources. This man is a real problem. I recommend banning. He is not even an intelligent troll. He is a complete idiot.

Just more transparent lies from another Jindal supporter. When I hear back from bellsouth about my complaint about the threat of me getting ran over, I fully intend on following up by contacting the local authorites. Enjoy your weekend.

Political changes loom large in session
The Associated Press
BATON ROUGE - A season of political shuffling is raising the uncertainty of how lawmakers will choose to spend record amounts of money and weed through proposals on everything from building-code changes and tax tax cuts to cockfighting.
Lawmakers returning to the state Capitol on Monday for a two-month regular session return amid the impending start of term limits, the fall statewide and legislative elections and Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s decision not to seek re-election.
Many legislators are jockeying for new elected posts as they face term limits that will force them out of their current jobs at the end of the year. Some term-limited House members are running against each other for Senate seats, leading to questions about whether backslapping and camaraderie will change into harsh words and tactics.
Partisan divides that have emerged in the past few years are expected to continue.
While Blanco, a Democrat, isn’t seeking a second term, it’s unclear whether her lame-duck status will change her sway with legislators since she has a veto pen and can remove projects from the state’s budget and construction spending bills.
House Speaker Joe Salter said he hopes Blanco’s not running will take some of the partisan politics out of debates, particularly after the partisan divide was so sharp in a December special session that it stalled nearly all legislation.
“The people who are throwing the firebombs don’t need to throw them anymore. She’s not the target anymore, and for some of them, she definitely was before,” said Senate President Don Hines, D-Bunkie.
While legislative sessions typically begin chaotically, Barry Erwin, who leads the Council for A Better Louisiana, said political uncertainty this go-round is sure to make the spring session more unpredictable than usual.
“It’s just a big question mark over everything,” he said. “It’s hard to predict which direction you’ll end up. I think it’s going to be fascinating to watch.”
Lawmakers say their philosophies won’t change, but Erwin said legislators running for office will know they are being watched more carefully.
“If you’re a veteran House member running for a Senate seat against someone who’s never run for office, how many no’s do you want on tax cut bills?” he said.
The budget is always a major issue. This year, the state has record amounts of money available for spending, and lawmakers disagree sharply about how to do that.
“It’s whether we spend the money or give it back to the taxpayers, that’s the big thing,” Hines said. “Hopefully, we can kind of come to a compromise on the deal and do a little of both.”
The state is benefiting from money tied to hurricane recovery and rebuilding and booming oil and gas prices.
Blanco is proposing a $29.2 billion budget for next year, plus nearly $2 billion in one-time spending with unspent cash from this year and last. (The new fiscal year begins July 1.)
She’s seeking annual pay raises for public school teachers and school support workers, police officers, firefighters, prison guards, college faculty and state employees. She wants millions of dollars in new spending for education, from preschool to college, to hire more than 1,000 new state government employees and for road construction.
Meanwhile, Republicans and some Democrats want spending limits and tax cuts, proposals that near $1 billion in recommended tax breaks when tallied.
Blanco is proposing a modest slate of tax cuts, totaling nearly $140 million.
Rep. Steve Scalise said more of the state’s money should be used to cut taxes for the middle class and businesses. That would spur the economy and help the state when hurricane recovery spending slows, he said.
“If you were real strategic in how you dealt with this surplus, we can turn this into an economic stimulus and a real recovery,” said Scalise, R-Metairie.
Blanco said she wants to leave a “stable budget situation for the future administration.”
“If the Legislature wants to do excessive tax cuts,” she said, “it can throw everything off.”
In addition to spending plans, lawmakers have 1,200 pieces of legislation to discuss, ranging from bills to ban partial birth abortion and cockfighting, to bills to reconfigure insurance premiums and the state-run insurance company and a push by lawmakers from north and central Louisiana to substantially change a statewide building code passed after the 2005 hurricanes.
At the time, the code was touted by Blanco and supporters as a way to show federal officials and insurance companies that Louisiana would make itself safer for the next storm. But legislators who live away from the coast said the code has caused home construction and renovation costs to spike for people not vulnerable to hurricanes. They say the code was started too quickly and should be removed for North Louisiana or at least heavily adjusted.
Terrebonne Parish will not go for Jindal!!! You can take that to the bank. I am here to remind them of everything. Hey Ron, do you happen to be Mr. Right on the Houmatoday.com forum by some chance? That would explain a lot!
Chaisson, you better stop. You’re digging yourself into a deep hole here.
I think you two Mafia Dudes are digging yourself much more deeper than me.
How’s that? Hey are you a volunteer for Jindal or on is Campaign team? You seem to know a whole lot about him.
Okay I’m sorry you guys please forgive me. I won’t bother you anymore. I just got too excited bigtime. I don’t even have a Driver’s License so how could I run you over anyways. I guess you guys are way too serious for me.
Tony G, why are you deceptively quoting an Arizona law in telling Chaisson that he is “in big time trouble” now? Are you in Arizona? Is Chaisson in Arizona? Is anyone who was allegedly threatened in Arizona? Aren’t all parties in Louisiana? Did any alleged threat take place in Arizona?
Your post was deceitful and certainly implies that you were referring to Louisiana or federal law and seems to be an attempt to threaten or intimidate him into shutting up. It was deceptive and misleading.
In my opinion, you blew your credibility by not disclosing that you were quoting an Arizona law to intimidate him with. I think your post was intentionally misleading. Why not cite Bangladesh law or Uganda law but make people think it is U.S. law?
You claim to be the candidate with honesty and integrity. I think you just blew that and have blown your right to attack Bobby Jindal or any other candidate on integrity and credibility.
I didn’t know that was Arizona law. Harassment is harassment no matter where you live.
