John Breaux WILL run*!
Mar 23rd, 2007 by Daniel Z.
The Times Picayune is reporting that former Louisiana Senator John Breaux will enter the race for Governor if Attorney General Charles Foti gives the legal opinion that he is qualified to run.
According to the article, “[a]n opinion of the attorney general’s office does not have then effect of law but is generally regarded as a legal guidepost unless overturned in court.”
It seems that the GOP attempts to keep Breaux out of the race have backfired. In a statement quoted by the Times Picayune, Breaux stated that their attacks have encouraged him to be a candidate.

nice find
There’s been a lot of talk about John Breaux this week. The man from Maryland wanting to run for Governor of Louisiana. If you read that last sentence it kind up put’s it in perspective. What is going on here? John Breaux and Louisiana State Income Tax. If he’s a citizen has he paid income taxes? The whole thing is ludicrous. It only goes to show both of the major parties are concerned about one thing. POWER. It doesn’t matter what’s right for Louisiana. If we were a top ten state who cares! Things would be good. But we’re not. We fight to keep off the bottom, rock bottom. The Civil Code from what I see does not define “what constitutes a Louisiana citizen”. Therefore it may be legally permissible to let the man from Maryland run for our Governor’s position. Breaux had a shot to do good for this state. I’m not judging his performance; however Louisiana was at the bottom of the barrel when he was a Senator. We’re already the laughing stock of the country. This would just nail it down and carve it in stone if we even let the man from Maryland put his name on the ballot.
Run John Run!
Anyone thinking Breaux will win against Bobby Jindal is a moron. Every poll I’ve seen (including the one on this site on the right side) has Jindal in the lead. Not to mention, in all the other polls on other websites Jindal is leading by a landslide. Jindal should have been voted in the first time, and now everyone realizes it. All you Breaux fans are in for a huge letdown.
Maybe you’re the moron?
The poll on the right side of the site has 42+11 = 53% not voting for Jindal.
And then if you learn to read here:
http://www.jindalisbad.com/the-speculated-big-race/
Breaux is still leading by 4%
That the Louisiana GOP is already prevaricating is a telltale sign of Jindal’s fear of Breaux. But Jindal better beware Campbell, Boassa and Georges, for all three will cut into a base on which Jindal is relying. And none of these candidates plan on conceding anything to Piyush.
Byron: Name calling is always a great way to prove your point. Polls are a snapshot in time, they are not static entities, they fluctuate as campaigns go on. I remember a poll saying that Bobby Jindal was going to win the Governors race in 2003. How did that turn out for you? Many pundits, even conservative ones, will admit that once the Breaux campaign gets in gear that the numbers will change and it will be a competitive race. And imagine what will happen once all the other candidates start spending their money and working to clear up the fog created by the smoke and mirrors set up by the Jindal camp about his record. No, Jindal will not have a cakewalk in this election once more people start to realize the truth about Bobby Jindal and why as a choice for governor, Bobby Jindal is bad.
And by the way, (as JIB pointed out to you) simple math does show that on the poll to the right, more visitors are not voting for Jindal.
Unfortunately the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 does clearly define what it takes to be a citizen in Louisiana. It references residency laws and domiciles. If Breaux, The Man from Maryland is allowed to run in my opinion it will be the final dagger in the heart of Louisiana. At a time when we need solid leadership and new high impact ideas we struggle with issues like cockfighting and John Breaux. I’m not an advocate of cockfighting however we need a strong educational system. We need economic development, we need coastal restoration. WE need to shake the image of being corrupt and uneducated. These should be out main issues.
I have been in a leadership role for the last twenty years. My job is to achieve results. I have been successful at achieving positive results by holding people accountable for their actions. Whether or not the Man from Maryland runs is out of my hands. To me he is an adversion to the real issues that plague our state.
He had his chance here and moved on to greener financial pastures. All I can say to him is, “Hey Breaux, you want to save Louisiana? Stay where you’re at. I got it”. Anthony “Tony G” Gentile for Governor www.tonygforgov.com
Tony: If it is clearly defined in the Constitution and Breaux doesnt meet that clear definition then you have nothing to worry about, right?
Well Bobby doesn’t have to worry about him. If it is clearly defined I would like to see it. I searched for it. I saw things that could be construed several different ways. Dan Z and JIB I appluad your efforts here and have been giving out the site address any chance I can get. I attended an event with LOJE last week. All the candidates were invited. A questionaire was sent out which could have been mailed in or answered in person by the candidate or a representative. Jindal did not show and did not answer the questions and forward them. To say the least these lawyers and judges weren’t very happy with this display of disrespect. Three candidates showed up. One of the Directors was talking to myself and another person commenting on the fact Jindal dissed the Organization. The comment was brought up that why should he come here or respond? He is the frontrunner and has nothing to gain. My reply was maybe so but look around this room, looked what he has the potential of losing. His seemingly inflated arrogance will catch up with him.
Do not be surprised about this Tony. It has been my experience with Congressman Jindal that he avoids all public events that are not under his control. He only attended one candidate forum when I ran against him in 2004 and he attended 0 candidate forums in 2006. Jindal does not want to give people the opportunity to get in a successful attack against his policies and record.
To all of the Jindal supporters that may be reading this thread, let me ask you a question. If Jindal’s ideas are so good, if his record is so stellar, if he is “so smart” (as many people like to say) why would Jindal be afraid of attending a forum and backing up his stances? The answer is simple. Bobby Jindal is afraid that someone will be able to knock him down a few pegs by exploiting the flaws in his stances and his record. This is why he acts like a coward and does not attend any candidate forums.
I want my next governor to have a spine. So far, Jindal has shown that he lacks the backbone to back up his record in a public forum. And I expect that the only way Jindal will come out to one of these forums would be if he “has to” (i.e. if he is trailing in the polls).
On the Constitution issue:
Tony: You said “Unfortunately the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 does clearly define what it takes to be a citizen in Louisiana.”
When you said does, you meant “doesn’t”. Correct? In which case my next response to you was in error (because I thought you said does).
Thanks for the heads up, my misstake.
Bobby jindal has brought fourth more legislation in his almost four years than Katrina Mary (landrieu) has in her twenty seven years in politics. vitter has done almost as much you people need to wake up and realize that the democrats and the landrieu’s Including Mary’s dad former mayor of the big easy have new Orleans and the surrounding area in the shape its in now and has always been and are solely responsible and should be kicked out of office and the state as far as im concerned.
James: What does “brought forth” mean? Does it mean that he submitted more legislation? Or does it mean that he had more legislation passed? Getting our fair share of oil revenues has been a big issue for a long time now. Notice, the name on the legislation that was passed was LANDRIEU and not JINDAL. Number 432 is not ranked that low because he can get things done.
jindalisbad???
breauxisworse!!!
I bet if I had Breaux’s mailing list, it would be the same as a list of folks who think EWE has served enough time. He should stay in jail until the state image is cleaned up or he dies, whichever comes first.
I’m sorry, but letting Breaux run just lets the rest of the world that it is business as usual in Louisiana. Maybe Jindal would be an ineffective leader, but his election as governor might send a signal that some folks in Louisiana still care.
Patrick: I think EWE should stay locked up for the length of is jail term. The attempts of the pro-jindal croud to tie in Breaux and EWE and how that would be “business as usual” would be just as pathetic if I was to say that Jindal must be cheating on his wife because he worked for Livingston.
Dan:
Point taken. EWE should be released when his term is up. Not a day sooner. Just a little frustration over our listing as a “Banana Republic” and our fascination with the number 50 (as in 50th in everything good).
Now, in just a few sentences, tell me why you think John Breaux is the man for our state. Don’t tell me why Jindal is bad, tell me why Breaux is good.
Patrick: Check the most recent thread that I posted with the link to the rediff website. They spell out a lot of very good reasons why Breaux is an excellent choice.
Patrick, because Breaux has the clout to solve our problems. He passed key legislation such as the Breaux Act while in Congress, and we now receive millions of dollars every year for coastal restoration projects. Breaux is connected, and Breaux knows this state. Breaux is mature, and he will discipline all the little Jim Tuckers and Steve Scalises in Baton Rouge.
Bobby doesn’t have the most money - Georges does! Check out this story:
Georges To Report Over $5.5 Million On Hand for Governor’s Race
The John Georges for Governor Campaign today announced
that they have over $5.5 million cash on hand for the 2007 Louisiana
Governor’s Race, making Georges the best funded candidate in the race
as of the present reporting period.
“I want the hard working men and women of Louisiana who
have stuck with this great state through the toughest of times to know
that this year, there will be a real race for Governor,” said
Georges. “I am making a huge personal commitment to see that the hard
working men and women of the state will have a choice of a leader who
is not a politician, but a businessman who understands the real issues
facing the state because he has served small businesses all 64
parishes for over 25 years.”
