Jindal’s Response to the State of the Union

Congressman Bobby Jindal was quoted in the Times Picayune to say
“The President’s speech was an opportunity to address many of the ideas and concerns voters expressed during last November’s elections, as well as to recommit that the federal government will continue to focus its efforts on rebuilding the Gulf Coast Region affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Every day people in Southeast and Southwest Louisiana continue the process of putting their lives back together following the storms.”
“While we are thankful for the support we have received from the federal government to date, I was disappointed the President did not address the rebuilding efforts on the Gulf Coast following our nation’s worst natural disasters. I hope he will continue to remember our plight and provide the needed resources to help rebuild Louisiana and allow our people to move forward.”

I look it it a little different. I do believe it should have been mentioned. However Bush could have laid out the truth. We’ve given the state of Louisiana 8.4 billion dollars for the recovery in two seprate payments. Of which 6.2 billion was to help homeowners and businesses get back on their feet. To date 220 claims have been paid. Of the damage in the region in St. Bernard Parish vacuum trucks are being used to manage the rain water to keep neighborhoods dry. This comes at a cost of $5 million dollars a month for a total of ninety-million spent to date. I’m sure they could have rebulit the rentention pumps stations in half the Parish with that much money. This instance cuoupled with the debacle of the LRA shows that the State Governemnt lacks the ability to steward large amounts of money responsibly. He could have crushed us. But he didn’t. Jindal is standing up meely mouthing to try and pick up some Democratic support. The folks that are tired of Blanco. Pure Rhetoric. He should be standing up fighting for Lakeview which is a part of his district. The eastern edge of St. Tammnay Parish that got crushed by the tidal surge. He should be yelling where’s the money for recovery here, not at Bush but at Blanco! I agree he needs to be yelling and screaming. If he can’t do that at least grab a shovel and start helping somewhere.
