   Average benefit calculated: $75,858.

   We can be so proud of what not voting for bobby jindal has brought louisiana.

   If Blanco was really concerned about the delay in financial appropriations for the road home project that she admits to knowing about even though she was not going to tell anyone.Which is why she got mad at bobby Jindal for asking her about it and letting the public know there was going to be a shortfall.She should have asked the new Democratic leadership in Congress.As a Democratic governor she should directly appeal to Democrats to get the ball rolling and not tie katrina money in with something they already know that bush will veto. Those would be moves that a responsible governor would take, but naturally, I don’t expect Blanco to do any of those things.I do expect her to beg and blame others for her job not being done.

   BTW thanks James for pointing out i left that part out.Because it seems a number of people here think the road to nowhere is doing a great job under our current lack of leadership.
   But our current leaders said they wanted the job and never said they would do the job it appears,so crying it is someone else fault seems to be the new battle cry of the louisiana.
   Vote Bobby Jindal for a better louisiana,because we have already seen what not voting Bobby Jindal has brought us.
   Maybe i am wrong but i think we new real leadership we can become something to be proud of again.I don`t think for all the crying it is someone else fault,can anyone be proud of the last few years in louisiana history.

   My comments were all tongue in cheek-I voted for Bobby the first time though it doesn’t make me feel any better after these years of stunning incompetence and ineptness posing as “leadership”. I was mocking her (and dumpy mary landrieu’s) shrieks that evertything is W’s fault. Blank-o remained completely in character when after Jindal pointed out a slight ($4 billion) shortfall in the Road to Perdition program. She shot off an angry letter blaming it on Jindal, Bush, and the Republican hordes. January can’t come soon enough for me. Notice how Blank-o’s new democrat congressional friends “helped” her and LA by lumping recovery funding with a bill guranteed to be vetoed?

   Never thoght I’d envy Mississipi their governor…

    Anyway, I find it very amusing that Bobby Jindal fans still attack Blanco even though she is no longer running. Why attack someone who is no longer in the race? Ill tell you why. It is just a distraction from the real issues and as long as Bobby Jindal can keep people distracted from his record, the better he will do in the election.

    Fortunately, many candidates will be able to spend millions of dollars to show Jindal for what he really is.

Did you ever carry anger or negative thoughts with you in your life for someone who did you wrong? If you are questioning others about why they are attacking Blanco, why did you say regarding Edwin The Crook Edwards, that you hope he rots in jail on another website? Do you consider what someone else said attacking Blanco even though she is not running ,any more wrong than you saying that you hope Edwards rots in jail?

    Dan Z. Bush is not running for re-election so why is it ok for people to attack him but we are not supposed to mention our own governor.I did not attack her for who she is are what she believes in.I just pointed out the lack of leadership we are still under.

    Bobby Jindal is not Governor yet,but some people have attacked him for not doing the governors Job.I will ask again why have a governor if all they do is cry it is someone else fault i am not doing my job.

    Btw James i did enjoy your post and i really agree with you on saying, Never thoght I’d envy Mississipi their governor.Funny we used to say at least we are not mississippi,but now we wish we were.I love louisiana and will vote Bobby Jindal because what we have now is not working.

    HR1591 he voted nay THREE TIMES! This Bill had much needed additional funds for Louisiana’s Gulf Coast Recovery. He had the opportunity THREE TIMES to help Louisiana. He chose party politics over Louisianans.

If you had millions such as Georges does, I would not vote for you. Instead of blaming others as your campaign platform how about some different ideas than blame? I would go on but you just don’t get what it will take to be respected as a serious candidate. You say that you want “change”. What the heck is that supposed to mean. You are in denial about your chances, your ideas are lackluster. Don’t even waste your time showing up at a forum.

    What ideas does Jindal have? It’s not posted on his website for all to scrutinize. In fact you would have to say he is hapless. Nothing but Rah rah with little substance.

    This is a Jindalisbad forum. Not a TOny G for Governor forum. You don’t have to vote for me that’s fine. Don’t forget what I did for you. I didn’t have to it. I followed through and made sure you it was to your satisfaction. In the end it may not amount to anything. The bottom line, I came through. If that doesn’t say anything about me and my character than your a poor judge of others.

    It’s like I have said all along if you’re a Republican , Jindal and his voting record may suit you just fine. However not everybody is Republican. A true leader, a Governor has to lead all of the people of any party distinction with the same vigor. As a matter of fact a true leader would not even see the distinction. Louisiana cannot stand party politics right now. It’s killing us. Open your eyes and look around. Be honest with yourself. You hold the key to a better day. Not Jindal, Boasso, or me. You have to hold people accountable. We don’t.

    Let’s set the record straight…Bobby Jindal is a George Bush Republican, not a conservative. Jindal’s plans for setting up Louisiana as a corporate colony for the oil and gas industries are liberal, radical ideas. Bobby Jindal has lived a shell of an existence, failing to engage in normal life experiences in the hopes that he will be able to live the rest of his years suckling at the teat of government service. In the old days republicans made a name for themselves in the real business world, and then they entered politics. Bobby Jindal started out in politics, with zero real-world experience. He has been spoon-fed his entire political career. I wouldn’t trust him to mow my lawn, he simply does not have the track record of independent necessary to make on-the-spot decisions.

    Mr. Jindal will be our next gov. He lost the last time around because he was too intelligent for some of our Democrat voters. The voters in the northern part of the state and of course the Democrat/Socialist hub of New Orleans. The city of New Orleans is a prime example of LA. Democrat policies ie. “A chicken in every pot”. Your way of doing things in our state is a failure. Until we change the whole face of our junta legislature (Democrat & Republican) and put in individuals who are for lowering taxes on business and the people of LA, we will still be a third world society. We have a multi-billion dollar surplus, which means we have been overtaxed. A person like Mr. Jindal will give the money back to the taxpayers and see fit that it is spent where it is needed. The German steel mill will not locate here because of the way we do business. Until we educate our people, the uneducated will continue to vote in individuals like we have in our governing bodies today. I believe Bobby will fix this. Lastly, the Democrat party has run this state as well as New Orleans since the Civil War. Look where there policies have gotten us - Last in every economic, social, and education category when compared to the rest of the progressive south and the country. Time for a change people!

    Thank God Foster has someone supporting him.So tell me why is the democratic party still not supporting foster in public yet.I do know since John Breaux is not running foster has been able to raise a little more money.
    Now foster is planning placing most of the taxing on the oil companies.Which means like the rest of corporations they will move elsewhere if he gets elected.But heck we still mcdonalds and burger king to work for.
    I don`t care if people attack Bobby Jindal he can handle himself,but what gets me is when people attack him while not expected anything out of their own Governor or party they belong to.
    Crying Bobby is bad is because that is the only battle cry people can come up with.If Bobby is bad you should be able to say somebody is better but you can`t.Wonder which great leader turned louisiana into the crying and beggers state because we can no longer do our job, and how dare someone expect a a governor to do their job and lead this stae from the bottom of the barrel.

    Bob: It is ok to criticize Blanco if you wish to do so. However, I find it laughable that when discussing Jindal and why he should be governor the Jindal supporters will say things like “well who do you want, Blanco?”. Those types of statements are the ones I am talking about.

    Now, if the people want to say “Blanco did this while in office and Jindal would do it differently and here is how” then that is a reasonable statement. However, nobody has provided any example of how Jindal is going to do things differently. They just say “blanco is a bad governor so that is why you should vote for Jindal”. It makes no sense.

    Greg: Yes, Edwards should rot in Jail. However, Edwards rotting in jail has nothing to do with whether Jindal will make a good governor. That is why it is ok to suggest such a thing. Edwards helped to continue the corruption and ethics issues that are state is now suffering from. Bobby “weak on ethics” Jindal will continue us down that road since he has proven to us that he is unwilling to put high ethical standards above his partisan politics.

    Yes, I am a partisan myself. I am a Democrat and I am proud to do so. However, I will not defend unethical behavior of Democrats or Republicans. And I could not support a candidate for governor who supports weaker ethics standards unless the choice was even worse. (Which is why I always point out that I would vote for JIndal over someone like David Duke)

    The Oil Exodus Myth
    It is a myth that the oil companies will leave Louisiana if faced with a processing fee.
    1. No other state wants them.
    2. The companies cannot and will not find another location in which to rebuild the infrastructure present in Louisiana.
    3. Most of the white-collar, high-paying petrochemical jobs have already left the state years ago.

    The citizens of the United States are frankly tired of the republican scare tactics of, “Vote republican, or _______will happen.” Jindal’s appeal comes from his blank slate strategy. Since he has no ideas of his own, it is easy to imagine him believing in whatever issue the voter feels is most important. In all of the collective interviews of Bobby Jindal I have studied, the only position he truly supports as his own is a radical, hate-filled interpretation of chrisitianity.

    Dan Z you ignored the question that I posed to you about Pelosi and othe Democrats putting amendments into the Iraq funding bill which Bush vetoed the bill. In that bill was Katrina funding. In Sunday’s TImes Picayune Stepanie Grace and James Gill accurately explain the politics of that bill. Both of those journalists squarely criticize Pelosi and other Democrats and they say that Jindal voting against the bill was a moot point because of what Pelosi and the Democrats had done to hurt Katrina funding by putting withdrawl dates in the Iraq funding bill. I have not seen you write criticism of Pelosi and Democrats!

    It is not a myth that oil companies are leaving Louisiana. They are. I am a landman in the oil industry. Let me assure the people of Louisiana. They are leaving now. We have had major clients sell all assets in this state and go to greener pastures. It is occuring now. Most common complaint…anyone….anyone. They tell us they are leaving due to the politcal corruption. I know its hard to believe after all Edwards told us all along they will be here to milk.     Greg: I must have missed that question. You know that if I see a question I will answer it.

    And no, I will not criticize Pelosi and the other Democrats on this issue. As I have explained before (and as Grace and Gill have missed), HR 1591 was a supplemental budgetary bill. These bills often contain funds for several different expenditures. Gill and Grace are being disingenuous if they expect this supplemental bill to be any different.

    The people of the United States voted for a change in policy when they voted in the Democrats. They are sick and tired of Bush and his failed Iraq policy. However, Bush is stubbornly following this policy despite the wishes of the American people. Jindal, and the rest of the Republicans who refused to vote for this (and who refused to help override the veto) are blindly following behind.

    The supplemental budgetary bill did not say “the troops come home today” (as some extremist liberals would want it). The bill also did not say “troops to stay indefinitely” (as Bush wants it). The bill gave more money to the troops than Bush asked for, it gave the Iraqi people money for training so they can take over their own self defense, and it gave us the funding that we need. By voting against this bill and again voting against the override, Jindal voted against the needs of Louisiana and the will of the American people. There is no excuse for it.

    If Jindal was really a leader, he would have taken the bull by the horns and brought Republicans over to his side. Of course, other Republicans have no reason to help out Mr. 432.

    I’m not surprised that Grace didn’t call Jindal out (since she is typically a Jindal shill, very rarely criticizing him even if that criticism is due). However, Gill did surprise me since he didn’t realize these certain things.

    Again, I feel the need to be a little clearer since you are not getting the point being made. I would prefer to have a discussion with you without calling EACH OTHER names. If you use the term “Democraps” then you are calling me a name since I am a Democrat. I hope that you now understand what I meant when I made my “name calling” comment.

    I am not having a discussion with Stephanie grace, and she acts like a shill for Bobby Jindal in many of her editorials.

    I am glad that you are disgusted with the Bush lies. Everyone should be disgusted with him and his actions. Yet here we have Jindal, a Congressman who continues to support Bush’s failed policy.

    And Gill did miss a very important point on the issues. On a supplemental budget, the funding for the war and for Katrina would be included on the same bill. Imagine all the funding bills that would have to be passed if each supplemental budget had to be done seperately! Nothing else would get done!

    When the Democratic leadership does something wrong, I will be the first person to criticize them! On this issue, the Democrats are right. They are pushing for funding for the Hurricanes, funding for injured troops, funding for the troops in Iraq and funding for Iraqi’s to help them take over their own self defense. They also give the administration TIME to get those troops trained. Basic training lasts how long, 10 weeks? HR 1591 gave them over a year to prepare.

    No, the Democrats did not play politics with peoples lives. The Democrats where elected because people where tired of Bush and his failed Iraq policy. Plain and simple. The Democrats are doing what they where elected to do. Why would they do something different than what the people wanted them to do?

By voting against that bill (and then not voting to override the veto) Jindal voted against the needs of louisiana and the wants of the american people.     No, the Democrats of Louisiana wanted to get help for Louisiana and that is why the national democrats put the Katrina money in the supplemental budgetary bill.

    That is just a matter of your political point of view. If you feel that the entire bill is correct then why would you not vote for it, support it, and then question the motives of the people who either vote against it or veto it?

    I dont like most yes or no questions since many things are not black and white. The President requested additional funds for the current action in Iraq. He knew that the Democrats where not going to support his open ended policy anymore. The choice was either …

    a) put the hurricane relief in the bill
    b) leave out the hurricane relief until the next suplemental budget.

    Since the troops need the funds, according to the President, it would have been irresponsible for the Democrats to have passed a supplemental bill without funds for the troops. So that bill had to pass first. And I would rather see a bill that provides for both instead of one that left Katrina funding out and would have forced us to wait regardless of what Bush does.

    Again, the Democrats won both houses of Congress because the nation wants a change in the failed Iraq policy of Bush. Why would they go against the will of the american people?

    Im sure I will find someone to vote for and I am sure that it wont be Bobby Jindal.

    I view the majority of that bill (I would say all but i dont know all the projects in it) as being a positive. From moving Iraq to a point where they can defend themselves (and helping them with funding to do it), to fully funding the troops, to increasing healthcare funding for people in the military to all those things that bill does for the hurricane effected areas, we had a solid bill with a lot of positive things that would have happened as a result. The country wants to move in a different direction than the one the President is taking us in. It is time the President and those Republicans in Washington realized it.

    Hey Tony G. I missed your comment sorry. I paged through real fast and didn’t catch the period. No, I do not believe they should have attached the money for recovery to the Bill. However, at the same time, how long do we stay in Iraq. Til the job is down? when’s that? If you want to finish the job let the Generals go and tell them to handle it. They’ll take care of business. When politicians get involved we’ll continue to have the mirror image of Viet Nam played out on our TV’s every night. I do not care to talk about national issues too much. Too many statewide issues to address. All Jindal had to say was look, I’m not siding with the Democrats, I’m not voting against the Republicans, I’m voting for the people of Louisiana. This money is in their best interest. That’s a representative, that’s a leader standing up for his constituents. He would have earned the respect of a lot of nay sayers. He just couldn’t do it. he doesn’t have it within him. The RNC is going to pump in millions to his aid in his campaign. That’s all he’s worried about.

    Tony G. Yes, that is a good idea, Blanco should have got in touch with her delagation and demanded exactly what you mentioned. I wholeheartedly agree. However her performance with the Road Home would have left the Bill sitting out there in the open. The Road Home debacle has added creditability to the perception we cannot be fiscally responsible. We’re a state full of uneducated people with corrupt politicians. Throw in the re-election of Nagin and Dollar Bill. Is it any wonder they tried attaching the Bill with others. Standing alone half of the Demmocrats probably would have voted it down.

    To the guy who said that its Blanco’s fault that the Road Home is running out of money, Jindal can thank himself for, as usual, not breaking party lines to support our state. Gov. Blanco and this state were depending on those funds from the bill Jindal chose to vote against! He’s a totally ineffective congressman and will be an even worse Governor! By the way, leave Kathleen Blanco alone already, she’s not even running!

    Again, there is no proof that Jindal winning in 2003 would have caused us to be any better. It is just as likely to have been worse.

    See, Jindal usually didnt stay around any job for us to see the results with him there. But if you look at his “solutions” for problems you will see that they are not good ones.

    His solution for the Louisiana Department of health was to just cut and cut and cut. He was running a department that is supposed to provide healthcare to those who need it but cannot afford it. What did he do? He ran a 200 million dollar surplus! How is that responsible?

    If that is an example to his solutions, i cannot imagine how our state would have faired any better under his Governorship.

    Blanco is still our governor and that is why i am still unhappy with her.Telling the truth in not an attack it is the truth.
    But we do have some good news for louisiana and that is Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, said he is introducing legislation that would provide the same $6.9 billion in hurricane recovery assistance .He does not feel it is fair to play politics with the katrina money.
    This is what Governor blanco should have demanded out of her own party ,but we saw how important we were.
    So when you blame others for blanco not doing her job,will you give Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman credit for doing what should have been done to start with.

    Now the road home is short about 2.5 billions dollars that Governor blanco said she knew about.so i wonder why she didn`t tell us just how much those ads cost.

    According to the Division of Administration, which oversees the grant program, the program spent $2.6 million on advertisements that ran from August through October, when the program was just getting under way. The ads ran throughout Louisiana and in Houston, Dallas and Atlanta, where many displaced storm victims have relocated.

    The most recent commercials began running in March and were scheduled to cost $1.4 million. The cancellation means about $900,000 worth of those commercials actually ran.

    If this much is wasted on ads i wonder how much was wasted on other things.So before we blame others would we be wrong to ask to see where are all the billions that were sent to us are being spent.I am sure an audit could be done and then used to show why we deserve more money.
    But that would be expecting a Governor to do there job.

    Bob: Rodney Alexander did it. If that was such a good idea, why didnt Congressman Bobby Jindal do it? Seems to me that Jindal is not taking up the leadership roll as someone who was supposed to have all this “clout” in D.C.

    If he cannot be a leader in his own party, and his own delegation, then how can we expect him to lead our state?

    And while you are free to criticize Blanco, I am questioning why you are doing so on a site that is about the Governors race and Bobby Jindal in particular.

    I don’t think it’s fair to play politics with Katrina money either. That is why I am wondering why Jindal voted against the money to begin with! (Oh, thats right, he was supporting the failed Iraq policy of President Bush).

The Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill is a an instrument designed to address disasters, agricultural crises and threats of institutional shutdown. IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO FUND WARS. Wars are historically funded in the regular budget. By placing Katrina money in the Emergency Supplmental, Congressional Democrats followed the law. What is illegal is Bush’s decision to fund the war for the 4th year in a row in an emergency supplemental. And he does this, as he can corner those who oppose it with the “stay the course,” “support the troops,” “be a patriot” rhetoric. This was the Congressional Dems’s first stab, and there will be others. There are already 5 bills passed by Pelosi awaiting Senate approval that deal with recovery in one way or another. So let us stick the facts and acknowledge that Blanco has effectively lobbied congress. and let us stick to the facts and acknowledge that the emergency supplemental bill is the instrument with which one funnels money to a disaster area. and let us stick to the facts and acknowledge that jindal’s support of bush’s war in an emergency supplemental in 2005, 2006 and 2007 while refusing to place money for katrina which is the whole reason an emergency supplemental instrument exists reveals that Jindal does not know the law and does not care about louisiana.

    Dollars and Sense

    Oil Companies operate in a bottom-dollar economy. This means that before they simply abandon the thousands of miles of pipeline and billions of dollars of infrastructure in Louisiana to move to Texas, they must first analyze the prudence and economical benefits of making such a move. And what would be the reason for this move? Republican and Democratcs, nestled firmly in the nest of oil money, would like the citizens to believe that the big oil companies will run away like a 14 year old bride at an arranged marriage if we impose any fees or environmental operating costs on them. This is simply untrue. The oil companies must first compare costs: will it be cheaper to pay a processing fee or it will it be cheaper to rebuild the infrastructure somewhere else? The answer is it would be vastly more expensive, not to mention highly problematic, to rebuild the infrastructure in any other state.

    Who is going to pay the processing fee? The oil companies or their customers? Who is going to hurt the most from this tax? Who is going to benefit from this exercise.

    The customers will pay at least 15-20 cents more a gallon and when I brought this up Foster did not refute it.

    The lower end income folks will hurt the most. The increase and gas and goods will far outweigh their contribution to the state coffers. The oil industry will stagnate in Louisiana. No sense in adding on we’ll only be taxed more. The 3.3% Utility Tax is already a burden. I brought this up and it was not refuted.

    Finally who will benefit? The State naturally , big time too! The upper income people will be affected the least. Ran out of time I could not get this part in.

    I agree 100% with you the greatest natural resource in Louisiana is it’s people.

    Tony: When you brought it up, he mentioned that the oil companies have increased the cost of gasoline over $1 without any external tax and in doing so have gotten record profits.

    I have the same fear as you do about the plan. I was concerned about the oil companies just passing off that tax to the consumers.

    I brought this up to him after the debate. He brought up the point that this tax will be spread out to everyone in our country. It is not just a tax that will be placed on the citizens of Louisiana. This would lead me to believe that the effect on the Louisian consumer will be smaller since it can be spread out across the country.

    I guess Ill have to ask you this question Tony. Why should we tax the small percantage of gas produced and refined here and not tax the oil coming from Hugo Chavez? Why should Hugo Chavez get tax free gas?

    And if the market wont bear higher prices of that gasoline, then the oil company will have to eat the costs themselves. Taxes dont always effect price, sometimes they effect profit. It depends on the market.

    The tax at the pump does not differentiate between foreign or domestic feed stock. All products are taxed equally. Chavez’s country is the salesman. They’re selling raw materials. Now we’re saying it’s okay to tax you to sell something in the United States or more specifically Louisiana. He’ll sell his product in Texas, New Jersey, and the Russians if he has too. Successful tax systems levy taxes fairly and equally among industries so not to favor one over the other by creating either a negative or positive advantage. This could limit economic development in a particular industry. Six percent is 6%. It doesn’t matter how you slice it. The oil industry has products such as will go down the list. Propanes, butnanes, Gasolines, diesels, kerosenes, benzene, toluene, orthoxylene,and paraxylene. Let suppose a refinery has these nine products. Some our plural because there are different grades. The cost of my crude has gone up 6% . (@ $60 a barrel) That’s roughly $3.60 per barrel. Dividing this cost equally amongst the product ranges comes out to .40 cents a a barrel per product. Roughly ten cents a gallon. Not every refinery makes the aromatics compounds. The bottom line everybody everywhere will see the same increase in the price of our products. Remember the oil companies are publically owned entities. they have a fiduciary repsonisibilty to provide shareholders a return on their investments.

    The sad part about the hole deal is that Louisiana refinieries retooled to survive in the early 80’s. This came a great expense. Billions upon billions of dollars were spent to be able to run this high sulfur crude. They made made the investment and struggled in to the 90’s. For the last three years thier investment has been paying off. Now I’m not sticking up for them. I believe the price could be lower. Now all of a sudden the deal the oil companies made, to retool and entice foriegn suppliers isn’t any good anymore. He wants to take it away.

    We already hit industry with the utility tax, 3.3% tax on what they spend on natural gas and electric. Now he wants to target the State’s leading employer. One of the top sources of revenue. You wonder why we can’t entice any new industry here in Louisiana.

    In gasoline we consume 12% more than we make. We have to buy gasoline from Europe everyday. Everytime the sulfur spec is mandated to go down in the oil products it requires more heat, or another process to meet the specification. Thus adding to the cost of production.

    I don’t know if I am in the right place are not. But I am trying to find out how I can get a Government Grant to fix my trailor. It needs a lot of work done on it. when it rain It rain in that room that we built and if you can help me i would graetly appreciate it it will cost in the neighborhood of 20,000 to 25,000 to fix it so please get back to me and let me know if i am able to get a grant
