Bobby Jindal: Same ole same ole
Sep 16th, 2007 by Daniel Z.
Bobby Jindal supporters tend to say that he will bring “change”. They will ask if you are tired of the “good ole boy” network and if you want more of the “same ole same ole”.
But as the Shreveport Times reports, “Government has been Bobby Jindal’s life since an early age”
Which is something that I have been saying to the Jindal apologists. No matter how much you try and spin Jindal as being “fresh” and “new”, that is a lie. He has been a cog in the existing political machine for a very long time.
Don’t be fooled. Bobby Jindal owes his political successes to many people and if elected governor he will have to pay these people back. One example of this can be seen in the clear absence of campaign finance limitations on corporate contributions in his plan. Currently the laws allow the very wealthy to circumvent campaign finance law by creating multiple corporations and having them make contributions. Bobby Jindal benefits from this very large loophole so I doubt you will ever see him tackle that ethical issue.
So don’t buy the spin, Jindal is not fresh or new, and any change he brings will be merely cosmetic and not solve the actual problems that lay underneath. And considering the fact that he berated the use of attack ads one week and then released on of his own the week afterwards, how are we supposed to take anything he says seriously?

Has Jindal taken a public position on the Jena Six case? Has anyone demanded that he do so? (Details here: http://www.naacp.org/get-involved/activism/alerts/110aa-2007-7-20/index.htm) Seems appropriate to know where the candidates stand on this one….
So Dan, I guess what you are trying to say in this post is that we should just maintain the status quo and keep the dems who have raped this state for far to long in power, because Jindals efforts to change LA would be “merely cosmetic!” Oh, and the “actual problems that lay underneath” that you speak of; Just take a look in the mirror, my friend! It is entrenched liberal demoncrats like you in all depts. of state government and the elected demoncrats in Baton Rouge who are the “actual problems that lay underneath!” You guys are the leaches on the underbelly of government who cannot survive without suckling on the government teet. Why don’t all of you bureaucrats take a walk in the real world, like the rest of us, and get a real job, not some brother-in-law appointed gov. job!
“Phil”: What I am saying is that the argument that Jindal is a “breath of fresh air” is flawed.
Please quote me correctly. I did not say that his “efforts” would be cosmetic, I said that any change he is able to bring will be cosmetic.
If you actually knew what you where talking about you would see that I am not an “entrenched liberal democrat”. The only reason you call me that is because I am against “your guy” Jindal. Did you know that when I ran for Congress that I supported a national sales tax instead of the income tax. I also failed to get the enorsement of the St Tammany Parish executive committee in part because they could not explain to me how an increase in the minimum wage would not hurt small businesses. But you can keep dreaming that I’m a big flaming liberal. Give me a break. I am also not entrenched, I am working from the OUTSIDE of the party structre trying to make a difference to change the party to make it better. I have even ruffled some feathers because of the fact that i am an outsider who doesn’t watch what he says and who will criticize the party when need be.
I am a Democrat, not because I agree with the Democratic party on every single issue that they support, but because I think that the Democratic party is right more often than it is wrong and it is much better than the “big government” Republican party who believes in corporate welfare, creating a welfare state in Iraq funded off our tax dollars, and who believe that it is the job of government to define my “family values”. The term “conservative” has been manipulated by the Republican party to mean something much different than when Barry Goldwater was a “conservative”.
I also find it quite amusing that Republicans will go on and on about how horrible government is and then when Republicans screw it up they go “see!”.
I want fiscal responsibility. I want to get rid of a government that is based on “who you know” and instead move to a government that is based on “what you know”. But electing Bobby Jindal will not bring us closer to that goal. He is just a cog in the existing political machine who made his way through the ranks and owes many people favors who will want to cash in if he becomes governor.
Oh, and I have a real job. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your creation of a straw”dan”.
Anonymous: I cannot find any example of Jindal speaking out about the Jena 6. I would like to hear what his stance will be. Im sure it would be some spin answer that says nothing.
I have the perfect solution for the Jena Six! All it requires is six pieces of rope and a sturdy tree. These thug wannabes don’t deserve any mercy. If this were six white guys who beat a black kid nearly to death then the entire lib media and the NAALCP would be demanding justice and not only would they be charged with attempted murder, but also hate crimes! What a double standard! God forbid we offend the black community!
Dan, will you at least admit that the democrat party has not only been in control of, but has also ruined this state for a long time? Your party has put this state in the sad situation it is in and you know it!
By the way, before you accuse me of being a racist for the rope and tree comment, I would recommend that sort of punishment for anyone of any race when it involves violent crimes such as murder, rape, and child molestation. If six white kids beat a black kid to death, I would want them to get the death penalty, no exceptions. Murder is murder! I would defenitely not be marching and demanding their release. I know the jena six are accused of attempted murder, but I still think they should pay for their crimes. Yes, the death penalty is excessive for them, but they should defenitely do some serious jail time for what they did, no matter how old they are!
“Phi”l: Why on earth would I call you racist about the rope and tree comment? I mean, part of this whole mess had to do with the fact that the white students hung nooses on the tree that they didn’t want the Black kids to sit under… but no, you are not a racist. Not at all.
And Louisiana still uses hanging for the death penalty, right? Oh yeah, thats right, we use “lethal injection” and not hanging. So hmmm, why would i think that you made a racist statement?
I know that since I am white, I have absolutely NO idea what it must feel like to live as a minority in a small southern town that still seems to embrace the racist “values” of old. Sure, I can imagine what it might feel like to walk up to a tree that I want to sit under and see swastikas hanging from it, but unless it actually happened to me there is no way for me to know what racism feels like.
I cannot imagine having to endure racism like these black children have endured in the town of Jena. White students hang nooses from a tree where black students wanted to sit and the superintendent of schools calls it a simple school “prank”? A white graduate assaults them with a shotgun in a store? Three white students attack a black student and don’t get charged with felonies. Yet 6 black students attack a white student and they get charged with felony attempted murder charges? It is absolutely ridiculous.
I notice you call the black students “thugs” but you dont call the white students that have attacked the black students “thugs”. Why is that? It couldn’t be because you have certain prejudices towards black people could it?
Do the Jena 6 deserve to be punished? Sure! Attacking someone is wrong. But when the system charges black people with felonies and not white people, there is an obvious racism in the system and it is an absolute embarassment to our state that this institutionalized racism still exists. And I will stand up and point out that racism, and stand with those who fight it.
Oh, and on your other post, sure the Democrats have been in complete control of our state… that is why we have never had a Republican governor since Reconstruction.
Wow, im being very sarcastic today.
Who, Mike Foster? He was a RHINO through and through! He was nothing more than a tax and spend democrat with an R after his name to get elected! Roemer was ineffective for his one term because the dem controlled legislature blocked all of his reforms! How long has your party controlled the legislature, Dan? You are a pathetic excuse for a white man, in terms of the jena six situation! You are a self hating liberal dem who is filled with guilt over societies inadequicies! Your bleeding heart makes me want to puke! If you are so sympathetic to the blackmans plight, then why don’t you move to the worst black neighborhood in your area! Live with them for a while and then after your house and car are burglarized 3 or 4 times then we will see how compassionate you feel! You are a hypocrite! I’ll bet you live in the nicest white neighborhood in your area! Why don’t you practice what you preach and live with them and send your kids to school with them! Limousine liberals like you would never lower yourself to that level, but you want all of us to do what you never would! Oh boo hoo, the mean white kids hung nooses on a tree! Give me a break, man!
“Phil”: I am a pathetic excuse for a white man because I demand equal rights and equal treatment for all under the law? You sound just like a Klansman. This post proves that you are a racist.
I don’t hate myself, I hate the people who would treat someone differently because of the color of their skin. I am not guilty because there are morons in society that judge people on the color of their skin and not the content of their character.
And just so you know, for the first 7 years of my life I was the only white kid in my neighborhood. I also went to a high school that was 60% black (at least). I have lived in a place where my house was broken into. And you know what? I don’t blame anyone but that individual for that crime. My mother was mugged by a black man in the apartments we lived at when I was in high school. I do not blame the entire black race for that crime, just the individual who committed the crime.
And no, I don’t live in the nicest white neighborhood in my area. I live in an apartment that has people of many ethnic backgrounds living in it.
And I would GLADLY have the poorest of poor black person living next to me than someone like yourself who has so much hatred for people with color that you cant even contain it.
But again, as I have to say to you and others like you, don’t let the truth get in the way of your attacking me. Keep making your wild accusations, they are getting wilder and wilder as you post. I love that I am now a “limosine liberal” when I have only been in a limo once or twice in my life.
Yes, the white kids hung nooses on a tree to send a message to the black kids in the school…. only a racist like yourself wouldn’t see the problem with it.
If I am a racist as you claim, then why would I be supporting an Indian-American for governor? I am not a racist, but unlike you, I am proud to be a white man! I am not saddled with your liberal white guilt! If that makes me a racist, then guilty as charged, I guess. It is your party who never gets behind any minority who runs for statewide office! Maybe you should take that up with your party boss, the ever-crooked thug Bob Odom!
What a miserable life you must have, Dan! In a world of political giants, you are an insignificant speck! Spending all of your time trying to bring down a great man who accomplishes more in one day than you could accomplish in your lifetime! You are an annoying gnat circling the dung heap that is demoncrat politics!
“Phil”: “If I am a racist as you claim, then why would I be supporting an Indian-American for governor?”
Because you only have to hate one race to be a racist.
“I am not a racist, but unlike you, I am proud to be a white man!”
If you where a “man” you would post with your real name.
And you are a racist, as your remarks about the Jena 6 reveal that fact. I mean, you did suggest that we hang those “thugs” from the tree.
“I am not saddled with your liberal white guilt!”
Im not guilty because I havn’t done anything wrong. It is racists like yourself who cause the problem. Why would I feel guilty for anything a racist does. I stand up against racism because it is the right thing to do!
“It is your party who never gets behind any minority who runs for statewide office!”
See, that is the problem with you conservatives. You think you are all high and mighty for placing someone with an Indian heritage on the ballot. Democrats dont care what ethnicity the person is, we just want the best person for the job. (And yes, I am sure there are racists in the party, but they don’t speak for the entire party… as I am sure you don’t speak for the Republican party… and I cannot imagine they would want you to since you have exposed yourself as a racist).
“What a miserable life you must have, Dan! In a world of political giants, you are an insignificant speck! Spending all of your time trying to bring down a great man who accomplishes more in one day than you could accomplish in your lifetime! You are an annoying gnat circling the dung heap that is demoncrat politics! ”
I live a very good life actually. I have a great job with good benefits. I have a beautiful wife who I intend on making a family with. Life is going well for me and I personally cannot complain.
You must not have many good role models in your life if Jindal is a “great man”. Jindal has accomplished many things, including dragging down the state department of health even lower than it was when he started, helping the president keep funding away from Louisiana by voting against HR. 1591, and voting to make sure that the citizens of Washington D.C. don’t get Congressional representation. I woudln’t want those kind of “accomplishments” thank you very much.
[…] And it seems that others are jumping on the “ban corporate campaign contributions” bandwagon! […]
If Bobby Jindal is so “bad” then please explain why are three Secretaries of major departments doing any and everything to stay on. One of them has even stooped to waving $500,000 of “emergency” funds in front of leges noses to put levees in front of hospitals in certain districts in outright return for a letter of support to Jindal to stay on …the problem is he offered this to more than one lege a la EWE style and got caught!!! and now everyone is ganging up on him! how sad! Let’s start with a clean sweep of Blanco appointees first!!!!
Tim Hebert
Tim: Um…. do you really need to ask why someone who is currently in government would want to stay in government? It has nothing to do with the subject of Bobby Jindal being good or bad. It has to do with a political appoinment wanting to keep his/her job. I would think that would be glaringly obvious.
[…] I have been complaining for a while now about the huge loophole that exists in Louisiana campaign finance laws. The politicians would like you to believe that there are limits on campaign contribution for individuals. However, the truth is that the only limitation on campaign finance reform is the number of corporations you own. […]
Bobby Jindal is a good governor who is trying to help Louisiana. I support him, and I think he will do a good job in reforming the ethics of Louisiana politics. All of you people who hate him should get over yourselves.
Anonymous: Can you please go into more detail and show us
A) Why Bobby Jindal is a good governor?
B) How he is trying to help Louisiana?
C) How he will do a good job reforming ethics when he ignores important issues like campaign finance bundling and balks at the idea of increasing transparency on the administration?
And finally
D) Why should we get over ourselves? Just because he won the election doesn’t mean he should get carte blanche to do whatever he wishes.
Do you really want to just allow Bobby Jindal to do whatever he wishes? Do you really want Bobby Jindal to just be King of Louisiana?
